American Radio Relay League Pacific Section News Read on blog or Reader Non-ETO Exercise: LAX Tsunami Awareness Exercise, March 19th thru 30th: By hamnurse on March 17, 2026 [EmComm-Training] Non-ETO Exercise: LAX Tsunami Awareness Exercise, March 19th thru 30th: Exercise start Date: Thurs, March 19, 06:00 UTC, Wed, March 18 23:00 PDT Exercise stop Date: Mon, March 30, 06:00 UTC, Sun March 28, 23:00 PDT The EmComm Training Organization (ETO) is pleased to join with the ARES LAX Northeast District as well as several other organizations in promoting awareness about tsunami and flooding hazards. Together we are running a joint exercise open to all Amateur Radio Operators involving completing several tasks involved around sending Winlink messages. Full and authoritative instructions can be found at https://www.laxnortheast.org/exercises/tsunami This tsunami awareness exercise is different from the exercises that ETO runs as part of our ongoing weekly series of “Winlink Thursday” exercises, so to minimize confusion, please make note of the following points: The exercise window is Thursday, March 19, 0600 UTC through Monday, March 30, 2026, 0600 UTC. This overlaps our normal 3rd and 4th “Winlink Thursday” exercises. You are welcome and encouraged to participate in both the Tsunami exercise as well as our Winlink Thursday exercises. The Tsunami 2026 exercise consists of 8 tasks and sending 7 Winlink messages. You are encouraged to complete all tasks and send all messages. There is no penalty for not completing a task and not sending in a Winlink message. All Winlink messages for the Tsunami exercise should be addressed to TSUNAMI;ETO-DRILL Do NOT address to your regional clearinghouse (ETO-01…ETO-10, ETO-CAN, or ETO-DX) Do NOT address to ETO-BK Do NOT address to ETO-PRACTICE You are welcome to CC any other organization or address at your discretion. Please DO address the DYFI message to dyfi_reports_automated@usgs.gov. You are strongly encouraged to create and use a Winlink Express group address that contains TSUNAMI;ETO-DRILL and any other address to minimize the chance of addressing errors. The Exercise Id for all Tsunami exercises is: TSUNAMI You must use all capital letters for the exercise id, TSUNAMI You are encouraged to use ETO as your group affiliation, but you’re welcome to use another group if that group is more important to you. Messages not addressed to ETO-DRILL will not be shared to ETO. Similarly, we will not share individual messages addressed to ETO to other organizations.
